Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has renewed his call for opposition parties to unite in a bid to “rescue and rebuild” Nigeria.

Obi made the appeal in a post on his official X handle after a recent visit to Kano, the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria, at the invitation of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He described Kwankwaso’s decision to join the African Democratic Congress as a significant development in the collective effort to reposition the country.

According to Obi, the move signals growing momentum among opposition figures committed to national transformation.

“On Monday, March 30, I returned to Kano on the invitation of my dear elder brother, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose decision to join our party marks yet another significant step in the collective effort to rescue and rebuild our democracy and our dear nation, Nigeria,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor stressed the need for opposition leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of the country.

He warned that Nigeria is at a critical juncture in its history, requiring sacrifice, courage and selflessness from citizens and leaders alike.

“The challenges we face—economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and declining public trust—require more than rhetoric.

They demand deliberate collaboration, disciplined leadership, and a shared commitment to national progress,” Obi stated.

Obi further urged Nigerians to move beyond divisive politics rooted in ethnicity, religion and regional sentiments, and instead embrace values such as competence, character, capacity, compassion and commitment.

He emphasised that the task ahead goes beyond electoral victory, noting that rebuilding institutions, restoring confidence in governance and securing a better future for younger generations must take priority.

Describing the current moment as pivotal, Obi called on opposition members and patriotic Nigerians to prioritise unity, national service and collective interest over personal ambitions.
